Felling & Dismantles

Tree dismantles and felling is the process of removing a tree in its entirety. Dismantling a tree requires a tree surgeon to climb the tree and remove it piece by piece if there is no room for the tree to be felled. Felling a tree is the process of toppling the tree from the ground.

Crown Raising

Crown raising is the removal of the lower branches of a tree to increase the distance between the ground and the canopy. A crown raise also reduces the weight of the tree and allows more light to pass through.

Pollarding

Pollarding is a method of pruning that keeps trees smaller than they would naturally grow. It involves cutting the tree to a pollard point so that the tree grows from these points in future. Pollarding will then typically be repeated every couple of years to keep the tree a particular size.

Crown Thinning & Deadwooding

Crown thinning is the selective removal of inner branches evenly throughout a trees crown. This is an effective method of allowing light to travel through the crown and allows air to circulate more effectively through the trees canopy without altering the trees natural shape. Crown thinning also reduces the wind load on a tree as it allows more airflow through the canopy. Dead wooding is the process of removing dead branches to reduce the likelihood of them falling and causing damage but also to improve the health of the tree and reduce the risk of infection.

Crown Reduction

Crown reduction is the shortening of branches throughout the trees crown, both in height and width. A crown reduction will reduce the overall size of a tree’s canopy to give the tree a smaller stature and also make it look more aesthetically pleasing.
